With the exception of basic conditions, our relation to the physical world does not seem to be determined in itself.
It is just that it is impossible to practically neglect it within its own realm, and it must not be allowed to swallow us up.

This constellation must have always been known as a basic human problem, or at least since K has taken on its defined shape as a fetter. After all, the fetter K provides the possibility of signalising the conscious act of stepping outside an overwhelming situation, or on the other hand, of initiating the designation of a closed outward state. Since letters are not merely signs to express meaning but, first of all, precise instruments of spatial articulation, innate even to our physical constitution, the body must know all this innately, even though it may not be accessible without additional strain.
