Sceptre and Gleaming Stone

Entering exhibition rooms like one enters an enchanted castle.

Being transposed into the interior of TV.

Room 1: Presentation of a Vidicon recording ray tube and the standardised data that define the TV image process in insignia style; high above one’s head a monitor showing the Austrian flag, flying noiselessly and permanently in the wind. (The daily closing image of the Austrian Public TV.)

Room 2: Wall consisting of 3 by 4 color monitors, static skin-colored reddish tone.

Room 3: B&W monitor near the floor, imageless gleam, endless audio tape: … our fabrications … our fictions … the gleaming appearance of all we expect each other to accept …

In the rooms of the Neue Galerie Graz, on December 9th, 1977, the lights are turned off at 7.00 o’clock just before the public is let in, and the following gadgets are being turned on: 2 light display cases, 1 gobo projector, 1 color monitor with video recorder, 12 color monitors with color generators, 1 B&W monitor with audio recorder. At 8.00 o’clock, the gadgets are turned off and the lights are turned on again.
